TikTok permanently banned account: how to recover it, reason by reason
You recover a permanently banned TikTok account by logging in, downloading your data from the ban notice and tapping Appeal on the banner with specific evidence. How to word that appeal depends on the reason TikTok gives. Underage bans need an age check and run on a fixed clock: a U.S. account is deleted on day 30.
"Permanently" is the word that makes people give up. On TikTok it describes the decision, not the end of the process. The same Help Center page that lists what gets an account permanently banned also says an approved appeal reinstates "your content and account status", and it lets a banned owner keep logging in for exactly two jobs: appealing and downloading their data.
For a TikTok permanently banned account, how to recover it depends less on effort than on two facts printed in the notice: the reason and the clock. When we checked TikTok's ban, underage-appeal and copyright pages side by side on 1 October 2026, the underage page stopped us. A U.S. account banned as underage gets 23 days to appeal and download, and is deleted on day 30. The same account in France or the UK gets 180 days. Nobody in a panic reads that far down the page.
What does the ban notice on your TikTok actually say?
It names the reason, and that reason picks your route. TikTok shows "a banner notification when you try to log in" once an account is permanently banned, according to its Content violations and bans page. The fuller record sits in two places: Inbox, then System notifications, then Account updates (you may need to scroll across), and the Account status screen, which rates the last 90 days as Healthy, Fair, Severe or Banned.
Screenshot all three before you tap anything. The banner, the Account updates entry and the status screen together give you the policy area, the date and, often, the post that tipped it. Those details are the raw material for everything below, and appeal screens don't always show them again.
If the notice mentions "serious misconduct outside the platform", you are in a newer group. PiunikaWeb reported on 27 January 2026 that bans with that wording had been arriving since early January, with no public explanation from TikTok. Those accounts still appeal from the banner, and the appeal has to answer something that happened off TikTok, so collect whatever shows your side of it.
Which of TikTok's seven ban reasons is on your account?
TikTok publishes seven. Each one leads to a different kind of appeal, and two of them have no realistic way back at all. The table follows the order of TikTok's own list; the right-hand column is our reading of what an appeal needs to show, not a TikTok promise.
| Reason on TikTok's list | Where the appeal goes | What the appeal has to show |
|---|---|---|
| You don't meet the minimum age | The underage appeal inside the ban notification | Your real age, through ID and selfies, a selfie with ID, a card check (18+) or facial age estimation |
| Deceptive impersonation | Appeal on the ban banner | That you are the person named, or that the profile said plainly it was a fan or parody account |
| A severe violation (child abuse material, threats of violence, non-consensual sex acts, trafficking, real-world torture) | Appeal on the ban banner | That TikTok misread the post, such as news footage mistaken for endorsement; nothing else moves these |
| A new account made to avoid another account's ban | None for the new account | Appeal the original ban instead; the new one falls with it |
| Multiple violations of the Community Guidelines | Appeal on the ban banner | Which individual strikes were wrong, post by post |
| Multiple violations of the Intellectual Property Policy | The copyright appeal on each removal notice | A licence or permission, or a claimant who agrees to withdraw |
| An account that exists only to break the rules | Appeal on the ban banner | Ordinary use: original posts, real followers, a history that isn't spam |
The severe row is where honesty matters most. If the post really showed what TikTok says it showed, no appeal wording, paid helper or second account changes the result, and TikTok's page says the ban can follow a single post. Spend your time on the rows where evidence can still move a reviewer.
How to recover my banned TikTok account through the in-app appeal?
Log in, save your data, then appeal once with specifics. TikTok's route for every reason except age runs through the same banner, and the order below protects you if the appeal fails.
- Log in with your usual method. A permanently banned account still opens far enough to show the banner; the password and email stay yours.
- Tap Download your data from the ban notice and request the file. TikTok says preparing it "may take a few days", and on the underage page a finished file stays available for 4 days, so watch your notifications.
- Screenshot the banner, the Account updates entry and Account status, with the date visible.
- Tap Appeal on the banner. For an underage ban, open the appeal notification and choose the age check TikTok offers you.
- Write the appeal as a short statement of fact (see the next part), attach nothing TikTok didn't ask for, and submit it once.
- Track the result in the Safety Center and your inbox. Underage appeals are answered by email while the account is banned.
What should the appeal text say?
Name the reason TikTok gave, name the post or behaviour it points to, and say in one or two sentences why the call was wrong. "I did nothing wrong" gives a reviewer nothing to check. "The 14 March video is a news clip about the protest, with my commentary, not a call to violence" does.
TikTok's copyright help page is unusually blunt about arguments that fail. Without supporting evidence, it says these are "generally not accepted":
- only a small part of the work was copied
- other people post the same content
- you never claimed to own it
- you didn't know permission was needed
- freedom of speech protects it
The same logic carries over to guideline bans. Pointing at other accounts, or at how many people you've seen do the same thing, rarely helps.
How long before a banned TikTok account is deleted?
For underage bans TikTok publishes exact dates; for every other ban it doesn't. The general page only says TikTok deletes personal data "after a period of time in accordance with applicable laws and our data retention policy", and that after deletion "your account will no longer be available." The Privacy Policy adds that TikTok may keep some information "to process the violation." Treat the clock as running from the day of the ban, and act in days, not weeks.
The underage clocks from TikTok's Underage appeals on TikTok page:
| Where the account is | Days to appeal and download | Account deleted on |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 23 days | Day 30 |
| EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland | 180 days | Day 187 |
| Everywhere else | 113 days | Day 120 |
The download tool closes on the same day the appeal window does, so a U.S. family that waits for the appeal result before saving videos can lose both. Two practical details from that page: the Incode selfie-with-ID check gives you 15 minutes once started, with a 15-minute wait if you quit halfway, and the card check makes "a small and temporary charge" that is refunded. If the appeal is approved, TikTok updates the date of birth on file and the account comes back without data loss.
You'll see "30 days to appeal any ban" on several recovery blogs. We couldn't find that figure on any TikTok page, so don't plan around it.
Can the person who reported your videos undo a copyright ban?
Sometimes, yes, and this is the most overlooked way back. TikTok counts intellectual-property strikes per type: three copyright strikes ban an account, while two copyright plus two trademark strikes do not, in TikTok's own example. Strikes expire after 90 days, and TikTok says it "may also remove strikes if the copyright infringement report is retracted or your appeal is approved."
So a copyright ban has two levers. The first is the appeal on each removal notice, backed by a licence, a sync permission or proof the audio was yours. The second is the claimant: a music label, a brand or another creator whose clip you used. If you know who filed, ask them in writing to withdraw the report, and appeal as soon as they confirm. Many claimants just want the video down, not your account gone.
If you want to see the other side of the process, our pages on how a TikTok copyright takedown notice is built, on reporting stolen content on TikTok and on the DMCA route to a full account takedown show what the claimant filed and why a withdrawal carries weight.
What extra routes exist in the EU?
If you are in the EU, a TikTok account recovery after being banned has two more doors than the app shows. Under Article 20 of the Digital Services Act, TikTok must run an internal complaint system that stays open for at least six months after the decision. Under Article 21, you can then take the dispute to a certified out-of-court body.
For TikTok the obvious one is the Appeals Centre Europe, which lists TikTok among its platforms, handles account suspensions, and says there is currently no user fee. Its deadline is six months from TikTok's decision. The weak point is evidence: Courthouse News reported on 27 May 2026 that of more than 5,000 eligible account-suspension disputes, fewer than 150 came with enough material to assess fully. Send the screenshots from the first step.
TikTok's own EU numbers show that reversals are not rare. In its DSA transparency data for January to June 2026, 377,235 of 810,860 complaints against account suspensions or terminations ended with the decision reversed, about 46.5%. Out-of-court bodies received 6,886 TikTok disputes, and 2,525 ended reversed, some on procedural grounds. Those figures mix temporary suspensions with permanent bans, so read them as "appeals get read", not as your odds.
The UK and Switzerland get the longer underage clock but not these DSA routes, and Ofcom does not take individual complaints about an account decision.
Did someone mass-report your account into a ban?
Reports can start a review; they can't decide one. TikTok's page says content is reviewed when uploaded, when it "gains popularity", or "if it's reported", and a ban follows only if the reviewer finds a violation. That is why we keep saying the same thing to people on both sides: how many reports it takes to delete a TikTok account is the wrong question, because the count is not the trigger.
If a rival or an ex hit your account with a wave of reports, the ban still rests on specific posts, and those posts are what your appeal answers. Mentioning the campaign helps only if you can show it with screenshots of the Telegram or Discord group that organised it. Sellers of mass report bots, account report bots and spam report bots sell volume, and our breakdown of what a mass report tool actually does explains why volume alone rarely lands. TikTok's U.S. Terms, updated 15 July 2026, also forbid submitting reports "which are unfounded".
For the reporter's side, our guides on what it really takes to get someone banned on TikTok, on having an account banned or a Shop removed and on whether anyone can delete someone else's TikTok say the same thing from the other direction: only a real violation ends an account.
Should you pay for banned TikTok account recovery, or start again?
Don't pay, and don't restart while an appeal is open. Banned TikTok account recovery is sold online at every price, but no outside seller can reach TikTok's review queue, and the Better Business Bureau put it plainly in a 2023 scam alert: account recovery "is always free". The pitch mirrors the one used for paying for TikTok account removal and for getting a TikTok taken down immediately: speed and certainty that the platform itself doesn't offer. Anyone who asks for your login makes a bad week worse.
A new account is allowed in general, and TikTok says so. The limit is evasion. TikTok may ban the new one if you "create a new account after your account has been banned for a severe violation", post violating content on it, or spread violations across accounts, and the rule "applies while any account restriction(s) or permanent account ban remains active on your other account." Posting from a fresh profile during an appeal also muddies the appeal itself. Your old handle stays tied to the banned account; TikTok runs no release program for dormant names, as our note on claiming a TikTok username explains.
One thing people confuse: deleting your own TikTok account is a separate process that the owner starts. It is not how a ban ends, and it won't clear a violation record.
What should you do in the first week after the ban?
Save, appeal, then guard the name. Do the first two today: request the data download and send one well-built appeal. If you are in the EU, note the decision date for the six-month window.
Then watch for what usually follows a visible ban. Clone profiles pick up the old handle with a dot or an underscore, and your best videos get re-posted by accounts that were never yours. For a clone, report a fake TikTok account with the impersonation reason, and our explainer on impersonation versus mass reporting shows why the reason matters more than the number of reports. For a re-post, report the re-uploaded video itself, or use our guide to reporting an account or a single video when both are involved. If you aren't sure which category fits, our list of which violation category to pick helps, and the steps to submit a report in the app take under a minute. Abuse aimed at you because of the ban goes through TikTok's harassment report.
If a copycat keeps coming back, contact us with the links and we'll look at whether a takedown fits. Everything else we cover sits on the full list of TikTok guides, and the TikTok Ban Service home page explains how we work.
FAQ
Can a permanently banned TikTok account come back?
Yes, when an appeal is approved. TikTok's ban page says a successful appeal reinstates your content and account status, unless you already deleted them. In the EU, 377,235 of 810,860 complaints about account suspensions or terminations were reversed in the first half of 2026.
How long do I have to appeal an underage ban on TikTok?
23 days in the United States, 180 days in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, and 113 days everywhere else. The account is deleted on day 30, 187 or 120, and the data download closes on the same day the appeal window does.
Can I download my videos from a banned TikTok account?
Yes. Log in and tap Download your data from the ban notice. TikTok says the file may take a few days to prepare, and for underage bans a ready file stays available for 4 days, so request it before you appeal.
Does deleting the flagged videos lift a TikTok ban?
No. TikTok says deleting violative content does not remove the violation. It can also cost you later: an approved appeal restores your content only if you haven't already deleted it.
Will a new TikTok account get banned if my old one is banned?
Not automatically. TikTok allows more than one account, but it may ban a new one made after a severe-violation ban, or one used to post violations or dodge a restriction, while the original ban is still active.
Is there another route to TikTok account recovery after being banned?
Only in narrow cases. A copyright claimant can retract the report, which lets TikTok remove the strike. EU users can file a Digital Services Act complaint and then take the dispute to the Appeals Centre Europe, free for now, within six months.
Can someone recover a banned TikTok account for me?
No outside person can. Appeals go through your own login and only TikTok's reviewers decide them. Treat anyone asking for your password or a fee to unban the account as a risk; the BBB says account recovery is always free.
